Drug Rehab Recommendations for a Successful Intervention 3

This is the third article in a series on substance abuse interventions, the most common reasons they don’t work and the best techniques to use. This series will contain 5 articles, each illustrating a different aspect of the intervention process.

Interventions are often times necessary when you need to get your loved one the help they need in order to overcome drug or alcohol addiction. A successful intervention will get them on their way to a drug rehab program, taking the first step in their recovery. The reason interventions fail is because those leading the intervention aren’t aware of the key elements that need to be in place in order to get the addict into a treatment program.

Part 3 - Uniting the Family

Keeping all of the family members and anyone else concerned such as a girlfriend or boyfriend involved in every step of the intervention process is key. Also, everyone involved must be 100% on board with the process. The last thing you want is for someone to secretly inform the addict of the intervention or begin to wager for them during the intervention. This will set the process up for failure. If the family doesn’t remain united, the intervention will quickly go off topic giving the addict a way out.

It is extremely important to have an ultimatum in place and to be willing to follow through with that ultimatum. The only acceptable ultimatum for a successful intervention is “Drug Rehabilitation or Nothing.” This is a very difficult ultimatum to follow through with as no one wants to see his or her loved one on the street but it is the only one that will work. If an addict sees that they can continue to be enabled the intervention has no leverage. Family must be willing, for their own good and for the good of the addict, to cut them off. This is the only way to help. Enabling a lifestyle of addiction only makes it easier for the addict to maintain drug use and avoid drug rehab, placing them further in danger.

Drug rehab centers are the most effective method for achieving permanent sobriety and moving forward with your life. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction or alcoholism, please get help today!
